Your Victory Garden

Consider these gardens a victory over many things about conventionally grown food that no longer appeals to you, like high food prices, poor diet, cancer, diabetes and all of the fossil fuels used to bring mediocre food to your local supermarket.  Much of our food that is conventionally grown is laden with herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers.  We know that these chemicals are harmful and may eventually cause cancer and gene mutation.  By growing your own food, you will know that the soil and your plants are safe and healthy for you and your family.  The Earth also benefits because there were zero food miles* to get your organic food from the garden to your table.

I will design and install an organic garden on your property that is perfectly sited for maximum sun exposure and one that is easily used and maintained.  I can also incorporate sustainable gardening and renewable resource methods such as the use of rainwater along with rain-barrel drip irrigation and composting.  These low cost, additional resource methods are a benefit to our environment and your garden.  I have several local sources for organic soil, materials, seeds and seedlings and will plant vegetables, herbs and fruit that you like to eat.  And if you want to try some heirloom varieties like your grandparents used to have, I can put that in your garden as well.

At the end of the season, I can also teach you how to put away your harvest, with canning, freezing or dehydrating methods so that you can enjoy your organic garden produce throughout the colder months.

Once you have your garden set up it can be used every year by incorporating simple organic farming techniques.  I provide free soil testing and will make sure your garden is ready for the next season.  By using organic fertilizers,  compost and a nitrogen-rich cover crop in the early fall your victory garden will give you many years of beautiful, healthy vegetables that are alive with flavor.

*Food Miles: The distance food has traveled to arrive at your dinner table.  Next time you are at the supermarket, notice where the fruits and vegetables have come from.  Some produce has traveled thousands of miles.
